New Patients

Patient Registration

Our practice area can be found on the NHS Choices website.  We can only accept requests for patient registration from residents living within this area. You will need to attend the practice to register so that the necessary forms can be completed and so that we can obtain your NHS records from your previous GP.

Patients are registered with a partner of the practice and may state their choice of doctor from those whose lists are currently open. If the patients registered doctor is unavailable, they will be offered an alternative but staff are asked to book patients in to be seen with their own doctor as much as possible as this helps to ensure continuity of care.

Acceptable forms of identification are:

  • Photo Driving Licence
  • Passport
  • Bank or Building Society Statement showing your Norfolk address
  • Utility Bill showing your Norfolk address

Unfortunately, if you are unable to produce identification to prove local residence, we may not be able to register you with the practice.

Our receptionist will check your ID and may take a reference number of the approved documents.

You will be asked to complete a Patient Registration form.

You will be invited to attend an appointment for a New Patient Medical Check. (Children under 10 do not usually need a check).

The medical will take between 15 minutes and half an hour and you will need to bring a specimen of urine with you for the nurse to test. Your blood pressure will be taken and any chronic medical conditions and/or family history noted. We will also check your height and weight and offer general health care advice.

Temporary Resident

If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP practice for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on the local practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP.

After three months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that practice.

To register as a temporary patient simply contact the local practice you wish to use. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the town or area where you are already registered.

Non-English Speakers

These fact sheets have been written to explain the role of UK health services, the National Health Service (NHS), to newly-arrived individuals seeking asylum. They cover issues such as the role of GPs, their function as gatekeepers to the health services, how to register and how to access emergency services.

Special care has been taken to ensure that information is given in clear language, and the content and style has been tested with user groups. Open the leaflets in one of the following languages:
